Integrated Development of Leather Sector
Scheme
As leather Industry in India was reserved for Small Scale Sector for a very long time, the level of investment in the Leather Sector is very low resulting in smaller production base, poor productivity, Obsolete technology, lack of standardization and poor marketing infrastructure has been other factors associated with the sector not growing to its potential.
The scheme targets creation of positive ambiance for technology up gradation and environmental impact for attaining global competitiveness through productivity gains, minimization of wastages, right sizing of capacity, cost cutting, design and development etc.
In this context, Awareness Programme on the Integrated Development of Leather Sector Scheme (IDLS) under the Tenth Five Year Plan, of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, was jointly organized at the Bengal Club, Kolkata on 27th February 2006 by CLE, ILPA, CLRI and FDDI.
Mr. A.K. Chatterjee, Regional Chairman, CLE gave the welcome address.
Mr. M.V. Rao, Director of Industries, Govt of West Bengal, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, Mr. Shashi Bhusan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI and Mr. Tapan Nandi, President, Indian Leather Products Association were among the respectable dignitaries present, along with 50-60 participant members from the Industry.
Mr. D. Chandramouli of CLRI, Mr. Mihir Roy of FDDI and Mr. C.B. Goswami, Manager, SIDBI also gave PowerPoint presentations.
Besides addressing the participants, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, also clarified certain queries raised by the members from Tannery and Leather Goods Industry.
Mr. Tapan Nandi, President, Indian Leather Products Association gave the “Vote of Thanks”.
