Upcoming Leather Goods ParkCourtesy ... Gautam Rajda
Date : 17th February 2006
Venue : Steel Junction on the E.M. Bypass
Time : 5:00 PM
With the handing over of plots of the Leather Goods park coming closer the excitement amongst the exporters who plan to relocate their factories to Bantalla was evident at the meeting held at Steel Junction on the 17th of February.
The reason to meet was that after the handover of plots the next step would be to make boundary walls. An idea has been floated that all plots should have similar boundary walls so that everyone could have some cost savings due to economies of scale in purchase of material and building of the walls. It has also been suggested that where there would be common boundary walls between two plots the cost could be shared between the two plot owners and also plot owners could mutually decide not to build walls but just have a hedge as a demarcation for the plots.
The other idea that was floated was that all factory buildings should have a similar elevation and that factories could choose between 3-4 types of elevation from which they could choose the one they liked best.
Mr. M.V. Rao (Director of Industries, Government of West Bengal) who had just visited the Leather Goods Park along with some ILPA members was present at the meeting . About 30 plot holders had assembled at the Steel Junction at 5:00 pm.
At around 5:15 pm Mr. Tapan Nandi ( President, ILPA) started the proceedings by welcoming Mr. Rao to the meeting. A flower bouquet and a small token of appreciation was handed over to Mr. Rao by Mr. A.K. Chatterjee ( Regional Chairman CLE and Mr. M.V. Kulkarni ( Immediate Past Predident, ILPA) respectively. Mr. Rao then addressed the gathering mentioning that this project was also a very prestigious project for the Government of West Bengal and was looking forward to seeing this project coming up as a Leather Goods Park of international standards.
The presentation moved forward with an Audio/ Visual display by M/S Indecorn Consultants in association with Mr. A. Banerjee and Associates. The presentation was made by architect Mr.Samiran Banik. M/S Indecorn Consutants initially gave the plot holders a brief introduction of their activities and the projects that they had executed in West Bengal. Thereafter they presented 4 suggested designs for the front elevation of the factories based on the size of the plot.
Thereafter there was a small presentation by renowned vaastu specialist Dr. Surendra Kapoor . This was followed by a question answer session where Mr. Banik, Ms.Debjani Jaiswal and Dr. Kapoor answered questions thrown up by various plot holders. It was also suggested in the meeting to first circulate to all plot holders what the cost saving would be if a common boundary wall was made on all plots. The second suggestion was that a questionnaire was to be circulated to all plot holders by M/S A. Banerjee and Associates to understand their needs. Mr. Banerjee from M/S A. Banerjee and associates also offered that if any plot holder would like to have a one to one meeting with the architects this could also be arranged.
Thereafter Mr. Rao mentioned that he was happy with the way the project was being handled and he suggested that the factories should be built to maximize utilization of space.
Mr. Chatterjee thereafter gave the vote of thanks. This was followed by tea at the cafeteria at The Steel Junction.
